PRAC 2009 Anzac Day Ceremony
At East
Claremont Primary School we commemorated Anzac Day at the end of Term 1. Doves were released as a sign of students' desire for peace in the future. Four Year 7 students (Ty Haberland, Ryan Stomp, Rahal Nanayakkara and Gerald Gralton) helped two elderly war veterans (Jack McNally and Geoff McClements) from the Claremont Returned and Services League sub-branch and Premier Colin Barnette to release the doves after the Last Post.
We hold the ceremony every year but the five doves were a new addition this year, as we decided to focus on peace as well as acknowledging the sacrifice of the Anzac. We finished on a lighter note, the doves symbolising thankfulness and the forgiveness and peace that are also part of our school virtues.
In French Immersion, Year 2/3 worked with Madame Hartwig and Mrs Brewster to create their own "papier maché" doves that were on display for our ceremony.
