History of PRAC
East Claremont Primary School has a unique position in Western Australian Education as being the only school in the state established specifically to assist in the training of student teachers.
PRAC
The school was opened on 17th July, 1905, next to the Claremont Teachers' College, which had opened two years previously. It was named the Claremont Practising School, to describe the service it provided to College students. Since the early days, the school has been fondly known as 'The Prac' or simply 'PRAC', a name which is still in use today.
The school served as a Practising school until well into the 1970's, and also included a Rural School from the 1930's. The self-contained Rural School, complete with white picket fence and vegetable garden, also boasted teacher accomodation and was designed to give teachers experience in teaching multi-age classes, as was common in Rural Schools of the day. The original Rural School building is still used today, as the Visual Arts and Performing Arts classroom.
The original school buildings now serve as the junior school and administration centre, but are almost unrecognisable today, with major extensions and upgrades through the years. The school's middle primary rooms were built in the 1970's with the upper primary classrooms and library officially opened in 1992.
Centenary
The school celebrated its Centenary in 2005 with a number of major events which included the launch of the Centenary Building Fund. Construction of a multi-purpose undercover area will commence during 2007 to provide the children with a much needed facility to be used for performance, play and shelter in the years to come.
Motto
Our motto of 'Tradition Rich - Future Focused' sums up the values of the school in providing a solid foundation in primary education, with a modern and forward focused teaching approach to equip our children for life.
